Friday February 24th
(02/24) Friday we finished our look at the role of women in the 20's with the "Persons Case" (p. 73). We watched a video about the 20's in Canada, and then started a letter writing assignment for the unit (see Documents).
(02/23) Thursday we finished our look at the Winnipeg General Strike, and watched a video on it. We looked at a reference sheet on Canadian prime ministers of the 20th century (see Documents), and then started looking at the role of women during the 20's (p. 72).
(02/22) Wednesday we finished correcting the question sheet on the worker's movement and communism (see Documents for the answer key). We then started reading and note-taking on the Winnipeg General Strike (p. 64).
(02/21) Tuesday we had our quiz on conscription, the war effort, suffrage and the end of WWI. We then finished working on the question sheet on the worker's movement and started correcting it.
(02/20) Monday we finished our look at the end of the war, with reading and notes on p. 53-54. We then started a question sheet about the workers' movement and Canada's economy after WWI (see Documents). Quiz tomorrow on conscription, the war effort at home, women's suffrage and the end of the war.
(02/16) Thursday we finished our look at the conscription crisis in Quebec, and started reading/note-taking on the end of the war (p. 52-53).
(02/15) Wednesday we watched a movie from the National Film Board (Entre les lignes) about Canada's participation in WWI. We then did some reading and note taking on the conscription crisis in Quebec, the worker's movement and the kaki election of 1917 (p. 49-50). We also submitted our WWI war of attrition essays.
(02/14) Tuesday we had a block in the computer lab working on the war of attrition essays, which are due tomorrow.
(02/10) Friday we read and took notes on women's right to vote during WWI and conscription (p. 46-49). We then had the rest of the block to work on the new technologies essays, which are due on Wednesday the 15th.
(02/09) Thursday we had our quiz on trenches, Canada's battles and new technologies. We then did some reading and took notes on the war effort at home (p. 45-46). Essays on the war of attrition are due on Wednesday the 15th (computer lab block on the 14th).
(02/08) Wednesday we finished our note-taking on the new technologies of WWI (p. 40-41). We then did some reading/note-taking on the naval war (p. 44). We then started a writing assignment on the new technologies and the war of attrition during WWI (see Documents). Quiz tomorrow on trench warfare, Canada's battles and new technologies.
(02/07) Tuesday we finished our reading and notes on the battles of Vimy and Passchendaele (p. 38-39). We saw videos on mercantilism, women's work and Vimy. We then started some note-taking on new technologies of WWI
(02/06) Monday we continued our look at WWI with note-taking on the Battle of Ypres and the Somme (p. 37-38).
(02/03) Friday we had our quiz on the causes of WWI and Canada's entry. We then read and took some notes on p. 36 about life in the trenches and the new technologies of the war. We also looked at a handout about the trenches and the trench system in Western Europe (see Documents).
(02/02) Thursday we corrected the question sheet on Canada's involvement in the War. Quiz tomorrow on the causes of and Canada's entry into WWI. We then started reading/note taking on the War in western Europe (p. 35).
(02/01) Wednesday we finished our notes on the causes of the war, and started a question sheet on Canada's entry into the war (due for homework tomorrow).
(01/31) Tuesday we looked at the course outline. We then started with reading and note taking on the causes of WWI (p.26-28).
(01/30) Monday we went over the FRAL 11 final exam. We then did a brainstorm on prior knowledge for the course (20th century Canada).
